Hinged-frame pattern

533. Meiji 26th Year Type; imperial artillery arsenal, Koishikawa, Tokyo, 1894-1935 . 9mm; 230mm overall, 120mm barrel, 935gm. Sixshot. Designed in the 26th year of the reign of the emperor Meiji (1893), though not adopted until 1894, the firing mechanism of this interesting weapon is double-action only. Spent cases are extracted simultaneously as the revolver is opened and the barrel tips downward. The plate on the left side of the frame can be unlatched by pulling down on the trigger guard, then swung laterally around a vertical axis above the grip. A similar system was embodied in the Austro-Hungarian Rast & Gasser of 1898 (fig. 237).

Mexico

534. Mendoza RM-22; Productos Mendoza SA, Mexico City. .22 LR

rimfire; eight-shot. Spent cases are ejected simultaneously after the yoked cylinder has been swung out to the left. A similar six-shot .38 Special RM-38 version has also been made.

Netherlands

Details of a 9.4mm-calibre gendarmerie revolver (fig. 965) will be found in the section devoted to the Bulldogs.

535, 536. Service revolver, M1873 O.M.; E. de Beaumont, Maastricht. 9.4mm; 283mm overall, 161mm barrel, 1285gm. Six-shot. Based on a combination of Chamelot-Delvigne and Nagant features, these revolvers have a pivoting loading gate on the right side of the frame behind the cylinder (fig. 536), but lack an ejector. A suitable rod was carried separately. The O.M. or 'Old Model' had an octahedral barrel; the improved N.M. ('New Model') had a lightened cylindrical barrel; and the five-shot Kl.M., or small model, was apparently intended for officers.

Norway

The standard service revolvers were basically Nagants. The Ml878

fired a 9mm cartridge loaded with black powder, whereas the Ml883

was intended for smokeless 7.5mm Swiss Schmidt-type ammunition. These guns were made in Belgium and Sweden (figs. 271 and 609

respectively).

Philippines

The Bingham Model 100 revolver (.38 Special), made by Squires,

Bingham & Co., has a 4in barrel and weighs about 30oz. It resembles the Colt Diamondback, but lacks the full-length ejector shroud and the barrel-rib has small recesses rather than true vents. The front sight is dovetailed directly into the top surface of the rib, the cylinder flutes are narrower, and the grip is more like that shown in fig. 870.

Poland

537. Ng.30 (Nagant, 1895 type); Fabryka Bronie w Radomiu. 7.62mm

Nagant; 235mm overall, 115mm barrel, 775gm. Seven-shot. Made in the Radom factory from 1930 onward, this is identical with the original Russian pattern excepting for markings and a few insignificant details.

Portugal

538. Army revolver Ml886, Abadie type; L. Soleil, Liege. 9.1mm;

220mm overall, 115mm barrel, 750gm. This is similar to the Belgian Excelsior pattern (fig. 257), excepting that the firing mechanism incorporated a single-pin leaf spring instead of a double-pin pattern. The detachable plate on the left side of the frame does not pivot around a fixed axis, whilst the arrangement of the ejector also varies. The grips are retained by a single screw. An earlier 1878 pattern had a longer barrel, an Excelsior-type extractor, and a differing method of fastening the grip.

Romania

539, 540. Dimancea; Gatling Arms & Ammunition Co. Ltd, Perry

Barr, Birmingham. Patented in Britain in 1885, by a Romanian army officer, the prototypes of this bulky service revolver (fig.
